About
Hello and welcome! I'm Rosemary, and I've always had a deep fascination with maps. To me, they are not just tools for navigation but beautiful representations of places to explore and memories to cherish. My passion lies in using colour and line to delve into the intricate shapes of maps, tracing the contours of roads and the marks humanity has left on the earth.
I also create personalised maps of people's special places, capturing memories in a unique way using silhouettes and maps. I have always loved portraiture, and incorporating silhouettes into my map paintings allows me to celebrate relationships, where people met, where a child was born, or where a family lived.
Colour is an essential element in my work, and I delight in experimenting with different combinations and schemes. This transforms maps from simple navigation tools into vibrant works of art, far removed from the dusty old A to Z guides languishing in car glove boxes.
My journey in art began at Falmouth University College and continued with a Fine Art degree from Brighton University. After taking some time away from painting, I've recently picked up a brush once again, immersing myself in the intricate world of maps and watercolours. My artistic process is meticulous and time-consuming, with each map drawn twice to achieve the desired effect in the final artwork.
I use watercolours and inks to create my pieces, layering and blending colours to discover new effects. I pay careful attention to each piece, ensuring that every map is not just a depiction of geographical locations but a vibrant, expressive work of art. Through my unique approach, I breathe new life into the concept of maps, transforming them into captivating visual stories that invite viewers to explore and reminisce.
I live in North West London with my husband and two daughters and am a proud member of Hillingdon Artists, exhibiting locally.
Thank you for visiting my page. I hope my artwork inspires you to see maps in a new light and perhaps even capture some of your own cherished memories in a personalised piece. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if you'd like to discuss a custom project. Let's create something beautiful together
